Accessibility Statement

If you use a screen reader, keyboard navigation, or any other assistive tech to shop for tent mounts — this page tells you what works on tentmount.com today, what doesn't, and how to reach us when something gets in your way.

Target standard

tentmount.com targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That's the bar most U.S. courts and federal agencies cite as the minimum for a public commercial website.

Audit date and method

Site audited on May 7, 2026. The audit ran in two parallel tracks:

  • Automated tooling: axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse against every high-traffic page (home, the Slipstream and Gatekeeper product pages, the all-products collection, cart, account login, and the tent-and-rack compatibility picker).
  • Manual testing: Windows 11 + Firefox + NVDA screen reader, walking the golden path (browse → product → cart → login). A VoiceOver + iOS Safari pass is on our 30-day list.

What we fixed

The audit surfaced fixable issues across the theme. We pushed the fixes to the live site between May 7 and May 8, 2026:

  • The Shop All button and primary CTAs now pass AA contrast (~5:1 — was 2.6:1 cyan).
  • Cart and login pages now expose exactly one page heading each.
  • The newsletter sign-up and the compatibility picker are now identified as page regions to assistive tech.
  • The picker announces step transitions ("Step 2 of 3: Select your tent") and moves keyboard focus to the newly visible step on each transition.
  • Brand logos in the picker no longer read as redundant alt text alongside the brand-name buttons.
  • The home-page slideshow now respects your operating system's "reduce motion" preference.

Known issues we're still working through

What we know is imperfect right now, with the date we expect to ship a fix:

  • Slipstream product page description carries embedded HTML from an older compatibility-tabs widget that screen readers can't parse cleanly. The cleanup runs through Shopify Admin, not theme code. Target: June 7, 2026.
  • Customer reviews and the YouTube product video on the product pages render through third-party widgets (Judge.me, YouTube). We don't control their code; we re-audit when they update.
  • Customer login and Shopify checkout run on Shopify-controlled pages. We rely on Shopify's ongoing improvements; we don't modify their auth or checkout flow.
  • Mobile screen-reader pass (VoiceOver + iOS Safari) is on our 30-day list. Target: June 7, 2026.
  • Home page Lighthouse accessibility score sits at 92 (we target 95). The gap is driven by the third-party reviews widget above. Target re-audit: July 6, 2026, when the next axe-core release ships an alpha-blending fix that we expect will clear most of those flags as false positives.
