Product Overview
Ready to remove your rooftop tent from your low-profile SUV roof rack without struggling to reach those hard-to-access mounting points between the tent and rack? With Vanultra’s innovative new design, you can easily open or close the RTT mount latches in seconds using the supplied grab tool—no more removing crossbars or scraping your knuckles trying to get the job done.
After two years of development alongside Sherpa Equipment Company and Intrepid Camp Gear, and three major design iterations, we’re proud to introduce a completely new method of mounting and removing your rooftop tent.
This system is purpose-built for SUVs like Toyota 4Runners, Ford Broncos, and others equipped with low-profile roof racks including Sherpa, Prinsu, TrailRax, UpTop, Wescott, and more.
How It Works
This innovative system uses six tent bushings (the male attachments) that mount to your rooftop tent and six female mounts that attach to your vehicle’s roof rack. The front and rear mounts feature sliding latches that secure the bushings in place, keeping the tent firmly constrained. Using the supplied grab tool, you can simply reach between the tent and roof rack to release the sliding latches—no more busted knuckles!
Note: These mounts raise the tent approximately ½ inch above the crossbar surface. This slight lift is strategically designed to provide clearance for awning brackets and to prevent unsupported crossbars from rattling against the tent’s mounting rails while driving off-road.
To Install
-
With the tent off the roof rack, open all four latching mounts by hand or with the grab tool to the unlatched position.
-
Place the tent on the roof rack, centering it so the tent bushings align with the six vehicle-mounted brackets.
-
Slide the tent forward until all six bushings are fully seated inside the mounts.
-
Latch all four sliding mounts to secure the tent bushings in place.
The middle mounts are passive and require no further operation after the initial setup. - If desired, lock the tent with optional lock(s).
To Remove
-
If installed, unlock and remove the optional lock(s).
-
Release all four latching mounts using the provided grab tool to easily disengage the sliding latches.
-
Slide the tent rearward approximately four inches to disengage all six tent bushings from the mounts.
-
Lift vertically to remove the tent from the vehicle.
What’s Included
-
Six female mount assemblies – two front, two middle, and two rear (made from powder coated 1/8-inch 304 stainless steel)
-
Six tent bushing assemblies – stay fixed on the tent, so no measuring is required after install
-
One dual-purpose grab tool – for both installation and operation
-
One stainless steel hardware kit – for attaching the female mounts to the roof rack
Lockable Mounts: The four mounts with sliding latches include a hole compatible with 1/4" locking pins, commonly used on trailer tongue locks, for added security. Lock is sold separately if needed.
Hardware Note: The included mounting hardware is 1/4"-20, the most common roof rack size. Some racks (AluCab, Slimline, Leitner, and others**) require M8 hardware, which will be sold separately.
⚠️ Not compatible with GOBI roof racks and other roof racks that do not have top facing mounting channels.
Recognition
A previous iteration of this design was recognized as Best Gear of Overland Expo PNW 2024 by Overland Expo Staff.
Installation Disclaimer
Installing this product may be challenging due to the nature of low-profile roof racks. Tightening the hardware can be difficult in certain areas because access between the tent and rack is limited.
Think of it like changing spark plugs on a V8 engine—the first few are easy to reach and tighten, but the ones in the back take patience, precision, and a steady hand. The same goes for these mounts: each one only uses three bolts, but the hard-to-reach mounts require a little extra time and finesse.
The middle mounts are typically the most challenging to install since many roof rack designs offer minimal access. Fortunately, the included long-extended wrench is designed specifically to help you tighten those hard-to-reach bolts.
Note: If your vehicle does not have a sunroof or removable tops, the front fairing of the roof rack will need to be removed to access the front mounts during installation.
This initial setup is the hardest part, but it only needs to be done once. After installation, removing or reinstalling your rooftop tent takes less than a minute using the quick-release function.
We recommend tackling the install with a cold beverage of choice, some good music, and a low-stress mindset—plan ahead, take your time, and enjoy the process. Once complete, you’ll have a professional-grade mounting system that makes every future setup effortless.

Vanultra quick release mounts are not compatible with Alu-Cab Gen 3.1 or Gen 3-R because there are no mounting frame rails under the tent. These tents have side frame rails and use a custom bracket system.

In Fall 2021, Tuff Stuff redesigned the mounting rails and hardware kit for the ALPHA model tent. Tents purchased prior to Fall 2021 use a custom M10 T-bolt (shown here) with a 17mm hex head lock nut. The industry standard for Roof Top Tents is M8 hardware. Vanultra quick release mounting brackets are not compatible with the M10 T-bolt. A fit kit is required to replace the T-bolt with standard M8 hardware.
ALPHA tents purchased after Fall 2021, do not require fit kits because they include the standard M8 hardware with nut slider plates.
