Remove the tent. Keep the freedom.

No buddy call. No tools. No standing on a tire with your arm elbow-deep under the rack.

Your tent comes off in just a few minutes, goes back on in the same spot every time.

How It's Possible

The Slipstream uses a 3-step quick release system. Just use your hands to twist the knob, pull the pins, and slide open the mount. The alignment is set once during the initial install. After that, it's a drop-and-drive: the tent seats into the same position every time without measuring or adjusting.

No tools required after the first setup.

Before You Order: Confirm Your Setup

Take two minutes to verify before you buy.

1. Check your clearance.
You need to fit your hand underneath the rack to operate the mount. Minimum 3.5 inches of space between the tent mounting rail and the rack.

Try the credit card test: if a card's length fits between your tent and vehicle (see image 15), you're clear. If it's tight, you may request wing nuts at checkout, just add a note to your order and we'll throw some in.

Not compatible with Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, Gobi roof racks, or Sherpa, Prinsu, or other low-profile racks. Won't work with risers.

2. Check your tent.
Look at your tent's mounting rail. Match the geometry to Option A, B, or C in the product images. Use the tent picker to confirm your option.

3. Check your crossbar.

Fits rectangular cross bars:

| Dimension | Min | Max |
| Height | 0.75″ | 2.1″ |
| Width | 0.75″ | 3.3″ |

Have a wider cross bar? There's a Wide Bar Fit Kit for that.

Fits round tube cross bars: 1.1″ – 2.1″ outside diameter.

Product Key Features

  • Quick-release and disconnect
  • Low profile — no height added to the tent
  • Compatible with most racks: round tubular, rectangular, and brand-specific crossbars
  • Drop-and-drive install — tent alignment is set once with the fixed side of the mount
  • No tools required after initial install
  • Locking feature with 1/2″ hitch pins (sold separately)

Important: Slight variations in tent rails may require minor modifications for a proper fit. The parts are stainless steel — they won't rust if trimmed or ground down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Slipstream fit my tent and rack?

Short answer: probably, but three things have to line up. Your tent has to run Option A, B, or C hardware (most do). Your crossbar has to sit inside 0.75"–3.3" wide and 0.75"–2.1" tall. You need at least 3.5" of clearance between the top of your crossbar and the roof.

We have 32 tent brands confirmed and most major rack brands on file — Thule, Yakima, Rhino Rack, Prinsu, Sherpa, Front Runner, RSI, Billie Bars, OEM 4Runner and Tacoma crossbars, and more. Full matrix at tentmount.com/pages/tent-and-rack-compatibility-for-quick-release-mounts.

Which option do I need — A, B, or C?

It's set by the hardware inside your tent's mounting rail, not by the tent brand alone. Easiest way: open the rail and look.

  • Aluminum square plate that slides in the channel → Option A. Most tents use this.
  • Narrow ~9mm slot with a wider plate sitting inside behind it → Option B. Intrepid, James Baroud, Autohome, GFC Superlite, Roof Space 2, Trustmade, Ironman Swift, Naturnest Polaris.
  • Bare M8 bolt with a 13mm hex head, no plate at all → Option C. Inspired Overland, some Ironman, some older 23Zero Kabari/Armadillo, some Freespirit.

Not sure? Snap a photo of the inside of the rail and the original hardware and send it to sales@starksidegear.com. Photos are the fastest way — we answer these same-day.

Can I reach my crossbars to operate the mounts?

This is the question that matters most and the one most people skip. The Slipstream gets tightened and released from underneath the tent. You need to reach in with your wrist to the front AND rear crossbars, on both sides of the truck.

Racks that usually block this: Prinsu, Sherpa, TrailRax, Wescott, Cali Raised — anything with side plates. Front Runner Slimline II works with a rotation fit kit. OEM factory crossbars on a 4Runner or Tacoma? Usually fine. Front Runner flat platforms? Usually fine if the bars sit proud of the deck.

If you can't get your wrist to the crossbar, the Slipstream is wrong for you.

How much clearance do I need?

3.5 inches minimum for a standard setup with a hand knob. The long edge of a credit card is almost exactly 3.5" — slide one between the top of your crossbar and the roof. If it fits, you're in.

The full chart:

  • Standard + hand knob: 3.5" minimum clearance
  • Standard + wing nut: 3.0" minimum clearance
  • Tall crossbar (1.6"–2.1") + hand knob: 4.0" minimum clearance
  • Tall crossbar + wing nut: 3.5" minimum clearance

If you're right at the edge, swap the hand knob for the included wing nut and you get a half-inch back. If you're below 3.0", the Slipstream isn't the right tool.

Will the Slipstream work with my Prinsu, Sherpa, or Front Runner rack?

Depends on one thing: can you reach your wrist to the crossbars from underneath?

Prinsu and Sherpa: Standard Prinsu — most customers confirm access is tight but workable. Sherpa — same story. Full Prinsu racks with side plates usually block access.

Front Runner Slimline II: Works with the 1230 Wide Crossbar Fit Kit plus a rotation kit. The rotation kit lets the mount drop between slats. Kit prices on the product page.

Front Runner SlimSport: Works with the rotation fit kit.

Will the Slipstream work with my OEM or factory rack?

Usually yes, if the crossbars are actual crossbars and not just rails. Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma factory crossbars (~2.0" × 0.75") are compatible and clearance is normally fine. Subaru Outback OEM crossbars work for most customers.

What kills an OEM rack for the Slipstream: crossbars taller than 2.1" (Rough Country adjustable bars are 3.25" — not compatible), clearance under 3.5", or a rack with no real crossbar at all — just a flat deck.

Do your mounts work with Gobi or other no-clearance racks?

Gobi racks — no. The slat design doesn't leave room for the Slipstream's clamp to seat properly, and clearance under the tent is too tight. We'll save you the return: email sales@starksidegear.com before ordering and we'll confirm your specific Gobi setup.

Other slat-only or low-clearance racks (Prinsu, Sherpa, TrailRax, UpTop, Wescott, Front Runner Slimline II): some work with a rotation fit kit, some don't. The access test is simple — can you reach your wrist between the tent and the rack to the crossbar? If yes, the Slipstream usually works. If no, email us. We have an option designed for that setup.

How do I install the Slipstream? How long does it take?

Honest answer: initial install takes patience. It's like changing spark plugs against a firewall. You're working blind above your head, threading bolts into a rail you can't see. Plan on an afternoon, good lighting, and a beer afterward.

Once it's dialed in, you go from 30 minutes and a buddy required to 3 minutes completely solo, no tools. That's the trade. Do the hard part once.

The step-by-step install video is on the product page, and the printed manual ships in the box. Watch the video before you start — saves an hour.

Do I need spacers or lift brackets for my setup?

Spacers are for tall crossbars. If your crossbar is between 1.6" and 2.1" tall, aluminum spacers come in the box — you just install them. If your bars are under 1.6", you don't need them.

Lift brackets are a different situation. Some customers raise the tent above the rack to clear awning brackets, shovel mounts, or a roof fan. For those cases you need longer bolts and the right spacer stack. Spacers are sold in packs of 12; each bracket needs one spacer and one longer bolt.

Non-standard setup? The Wide Crossbar Fit Kit and Quick Release Lock ship as separate SKUs.

The included bolts are too short for my crossbar — what do I do?

This comes up with wide crossbars and bed racks. The bolts in the standard kit handle bars up to 3.3" wide. Wider than that, you need the 1230 Wide Crossbar Fit Kit.

If you're in the middle — a 3.15" Yakima WingBar or Thule AeroBlade — the standard bolts should work, but heavy padding or an unusual tent rail can eat that margin. Send an email with your crossbar dimensions and tent model and we'll ship the right bolts. Keep the short ones as spares.

Don't force a bolt that barely catches. A few threads of engagement is not enough for a 150 lb tent at highway speed.

How fast will my order ship?

US orders ship free via USPS, 5–7 business days door to door. We ship from Colorado Monday through Saturday.

Holiday weekends can add a day or two. If your tracking hasn't updated in 72 hours, email sales@starksidegear.com with your order number — we open a USPS inquiry and reship at no cost if it doesn't move.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — Canada, Australia, UAE, Europe, and most of the rest of the world. International shipping is not free and isn't quoted at checkout. Email sales@starksidegear.com with your address and we'll send a shipping quote.

Two things to know:

  • Customs fees, duties, and VAT are the buyer's responsibility (Europe and UK especially).
  • International orders are final sale. No returns across borders.

We've shipped to customers in UAE, Australia, and Canada regularly. It works — we just want you to have the full picture before you buy.

How do I return something?

Email sales@starksidegear.com with your order number and the reason. We'll confirm you're inside the window and issue an RMA number before anything ships back — nothing comes back without one.

The policy, no surprises:

  • 30-day window from purchase date
  • 10% restocking fee if unopened, 20% if opened or installed
  • $9 return shipping deducted from the refund (we email you the label)
  • International orders are final sale
  • RMA required before you ship — returns without an RMA number won't be processed

Do you have a discount code or current promotion?

We don't run seasonal sales or blast discount codes. Price is the price — it's what keeps the business stable enough to answer your compatibility question on a Saturday.

A couple of exceptions worth knowing:

  • The Slipstream + ceiling hoist bundle is sometimes pre-discounted. No extra code needed — the bundle price reflects it.
  • Industry and trade customers: email sales@starksidegear.com with a quick note about your shop or brand. We handle those one at a time.

Do you offer a military, veteran, or first responder discount?

Yes — 5% for active military, veterans, law enforcement, and fire/EMS. Email sales@starksidegear.com with a photo of your ID (VA card, military ID, badge, or equivalent) before you order and we'll send a code.

Thanks for your service. Happy to do it.

Can I get more than 4 mounts — for a third crossbar or six mounting points?

Yes. The 6-pack isn't on the website but we sell it direct for heavy tents and three-crossbar setups. Front Runner specs 6–8 points for a 178 lb tent — that's who this is for.

Email sales@starksidegear.com with your tent weight, rack, and how many crossbars you're running. We'll confirm the configuration and send a direct invoice.

If you're on two crossbars with a tent under 150 lb, stick with the 4-pack. More mounts is not the answer — correct mounts, correctly installed, is.

Does it lock? Can I add theft protection?

For real theft protection, pair the Slipstream with the Gatekeeper locking mount. Two Gatekeepers on one diagonal corner, two Slipstreams on the other diagonal — that's the most common setup. You still get quick-release on half the tent, and the other half is bolted down and locked.

If you only need to slow someone down, you can add a Quick Release Lock or a standard 1/2" receiver hitch pin lock to the Slipstream's clevis pin. Cover plate over the lock nuts is what makes the Gatekeeper bolt-cutter resistant — a pin alone can't match that.

See tentmount.com/products/the-gatekeeper.

What's included in the kit?

This kit includes 4 roof top tent mounts. They arrive fully assembled, but installation steps are required. Spacers are also included if needed, but they need reassembly to install. Follow the steps in the instruction manual that ships in the box.

What if it still doesn't fit?

We offer free problem-solving advice and quick, easy exchanges. We'll do our best to make sure the product fits the first time. If it doesn't, we're happy to exchange it for you. Still concerned? You have a 30-day return window.

Is your site accessible?

tentmount.com targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the bar most U.S. courts cite as the minimum for a public commercial site. We audited the site on May 7, 2026 with axe-core, Pa11y, Lighthouse, and a manual NVDA + Firefox keyboard pass. Findings, what we fixed, what's still imperfect, and the dates we expect to ship fixes all live at /pages/accessibility-statement.

If you hit something on the site that gets in your way, email sales@starksidegear.com or call/text (303) 351-2227. We'll route around it or take the order by phone.

How do I reach you? What are your hours?

Email: sales@starksidegear.com. Call or text: (303) 351-2227. Hours: Monday–Saturday, 9:30am–6:30pm MST. We're based in Buena Vista, Colorado.
